Scissor Lift Course

RIIOHS301B Operate Elevating Work Platforms

The aim of this nationally accredited course is to provide participants with the skills to operate different types of Elevating Work Platform in a competent, safe and efficient manner.  Although you do not require a high risk work licence to operate a scissor lift, vertical lift, boom lift with a maximum platform height of under 11 metres, or a trailer mounted boom lift with a maximum platform height of under 11 metres, the WHS and OHS laws in all the states and territories require employees to be trained on any type of equipment they operate.

      

A Worksafe High Risk Work Licence does not allow the holder to operate a scissor lift, vertical lift. Assessments are not allowed to be carried out on the above listed EWP's, so no evidence of training can be provided under this licence.

COURSE PRE-REQUISITE

  • Participants must be 18 years of age (minimum) for training and licensing.
  • Be sufficiently fluent in the use of the English language for communication and interpretation purposes.
  • An Understanding of basic mathematics.

COURSE SCOPE

The course scope can be tailed to your needs, the course can cover the operation of:

  • Scissor Lifts any type to any height
  • Vertical Lifts any type to any height
  • Boom Lifts to a maximum 11 metre platform height
  • Trailer Mounted Boom Lifts to a maximum 11 metre platform height

Students can complete one of the EWP types above or any combination of the four, prices and course durations will vary depending on these selections.

COURSE CONTENT

Comply with Occupational Health and Safety Policy and Procedures, RIIOHS301B Operate elevating work platforms:

  • OH&S Legislation (Acts, Regulations and Duty of Care)
  • Application of Australian Standards and National Standards
  • Fall Prevention (Harness/lanyard inspection and applications)
  • Personal and general safety
  • Identification of workplace hazards and application of control measures
  • Principles of different types of EWP operations
  • Start up and shutdown procedures
  • Communication with key personnel and others at the worksite
  • Stability of the various types of EWP
  • Routine inspections of various types of EWP's before and after each use

COURSE OUTCOMES

At the completion of this course the participant will be able to carry out the following;

  • Plan the task in conjunction with site personnel and site supervisor
  • Identify workplace hazards and implement appropriate control measures
  • Conduct routine inspections of the selected EWP's before and after use.
  • Correct positioning and setting up of the EWP
  • Operate the EWP within the units SWL and operators manual (information)
  • Perform parking and shutdown procedures
  • A nationally recognised statement of attainment will be issued to students that successfully complete this course
  • A Go Workplace Training wallet size operators card with the relevant trained categories will be issued (e.g. Boom Lift (BL), Scissor Lift (SL) etc...)

DURATION

1 day 8.00am to 2.30pm or structured time frame to suit the client’s requirements

ASSESSMENT

  • A supervised written and practical assessment will be conducted.
  • A Statement of Attainment and a 60 day Interim Notice of Assessment will be issued to successful applicants.
  • Current identification requirements for applications include;
  • Primary ID can be in the form of Australian Passport, photographic type Motor Vehicle Drivers License, current Overseas Passport, valid High Risk Work License card or a Proof of Age card.
